Akbank Art Center will be hosting artist Claude Closky's exhibition titled Heads or Tails from 16th of January till 6th of March 2010. The exhibition making us consider about the significance and insignificance of images, is curated by Ali Akay.
Akay says: ''The exhibition is based on an arrangement which makes the audience understand the intersection of significance and insignificance through both constructing binary oppositions and presenting a "no choice" situation. It both reminds us the inability of the audience in terms of understanding images and the temporariness of art's meaning and its process of reducing our possibilities of thinking through speed likewise today's information. When we look at Claude Closky's work we may observe that words become images and a resemblance appears between a technology of a world of translation in which writing and reading pass through the images and sounds and the "televisual technology" of the information of our everyday life. ''
Claude Closky who won Marcel Duchamp prize in Paris gives us some hints of the recent past of art history, of worlds of information and news, of labels in consumer society's everyday life, of images between words and of echoes in sounds and similarities. We may mention that the artist is producing series.
